Bak Kwa Cookies 肉干曲奇 (中英加图对照食谱)


Today is the fifth day of the Chinese New Year. In two days time, it will mark the seventh day of the first month on the Lunar calendar, traditionally known as 'Renri' (人日)which means the common man's birthday and everyone grows one year older. Coincidentally, 14 February is also the western Valentine's Day. 

I have made some heart-shaped bak kwa (pork jerky) cookies specially for my dear hubby. Bak Kwa is a traditional and popular Chinese New Year snack food in Singapore and Malaysia to welcome the prosperity of the coming year and are often bought as lavish gifts for friends and family. Due to a super busy schedule, I do not have the time to prepare my own Homemade Bak Kwa this year. I have used store-bought ones for this recipe and the savoury cookies turned out to be flavorful and tasty. Do give it a try when you have the time. Marbled Cream Cheese Brownie 大理石乳酪布朗尼(中英加图对照食谱)



These marbled cream cheese brownie are so moreish that you will fall in LOVE with this dessert at the first bite! It is also baked in my favourite Mastrad silicone 12 heart-shaped muffin pan. I LOVE this pan as it is so easy to unmould and every piece came out so lovely that you can't help falling in LOVE with it!

Gem Candy Cookies宝石糖果曲奇(中英加图对照食谱)


This month is our local school exam period, I have made these Gem Candy Cookies to cheer my kids and they love it! I have used this set of Mastrad Cookie Cutters to cut out the fun shapes and fill the center with candies, don't they look like gems, pretty isn't it? You can made these for the coming Christmas and it will surely made a lovely gift for your loved ones and friends! 

这个月是本地学校的考期,我做了这些宝石糖果曲奇来鼓励孩子们,他们好喜欢!我用了这套Mastrad多功能饼干模具,切出有趣的形状,并在空中加了糖果,看起来好像宝石,是不是很漂亮?大家可以在即将到来的圣诞,尝试做这些曲奇,送给亲朋好友,一定会受欢迎的!

Matcha & Beetroot Butter Cake for my 15th Wedding Anniversary 抹茶与甜菜根奶油蛋糕庆祝水晶婚 (中英食谱)





I was cracking my brain hard again....thinking what cake to bake for my 15th crystal wedding anniversary. Last year, I created the 'Non-Bake Rose cheesecake' and it was well received by hubby as well as many readers who have tried the recipe.  You might think why is it so difficult to decide what to bake, I could have just decided on a sponge cake and decorated with loads of whipping cream. Well...my hubby dislikes cakes with whipping cream and he is not one who can be pleases easily. (oops...Shhhh! ) Thus, I have to come up with a plain, yet pretty and delicious cake to please both his eyes and palate....haha! After some thoughts, I decided to adapt from my super moist 'Almond Butter Cake' and baked this super healthy, all natural and delicious Matcha Beetroot Butter Cake the night before the special occasion on 27 May. 

Last Wednesday morning, I showed him the cake and he said, "Interesting!". I cut a slice for him, he took a bite and said, "Hmm...taste good!" As I mentioned in my previous post, my hubby isn't one who praises easily too, so if he says good, it must be so! ;p 



We had a nice dinner celebration that night and received this complimentary chocolate fudge cake. :)

 I have also received a box of Mastrad macaron kit to try out. 


Using this kit, I have made a batch of French method Macarons and I am so glad that it is successful on my first attempt! Though it is not very tall, it is close to the ideal macaron which should have a perfect circle with solid smooth bases, have a ruffled “skirt” or “feet” along the edges where it has risen in the oven, taste slightly chewy and yet crunchy!

Racoon cut-out Cookies - Valentine's Special 浣熊造型饼干- 情人节特定 (中英食谱教程)




Two weeks ago, my blogger friend, Fion invited me to join in the fun of posting Valentine's cookie together with a few other bloggers on Valentine's Day. Here's sharing these Racoon cookies which I have baked specially for my dear hubby. The racoon holds a special meaning for me as the first gift I received from my other half during our first date was a stuff toy racoon. (you'll see it on the left in the photo below) Hope these racoon cookies will bring him fond memories of our courtship days.

Chocolate Cheesecake - Highly Recommended! 巧克力乳酪蛋糕 (中英食谱教程)



This cake was made specially for my dear hubby's birthday last Thursday. He is one who does not like cream on cake and I recalled baking him a Molten Lava Cake last year. This year I have used two of his favourite food (mine as well), Dark Chocolate and Cream Cheese for his birthday cake and he loves it! This cheesecake is highly recommended and you can make it for the coming Valentine's Day or after meal dessert for reunion dinner!

Matcha Macarons with Dark Chocolate Ganache (Pierre Hermes Italian Method) Tutorial Recipe


It's been a long time, more than a year, since I last attempted to make macarons. The first time was a total failure, there were no feet at all and many shells were cracked. The second attempt which was my last attempt, turned out better than the first. Half of the shells showed feet but that's only halfway to a successful tray of macarons. I stopped trying after that as firstly, I am not a macaron fan, secondly, there are so many other recipes to try out in my long to-bake-and-try list. Lastly, I am not confident of getting those pretty feets out.
