Farm Truck Chocolate Fudge Cake

Last Saturday was my son's six years old birthday. I decided to attempt this 3-Dimentional cake at the last minute. I didn't have time to plan it earlier as the month of September is a busy and stressful one for me.

Firstly, my elder girl is taking her PSLE (Primary School Leaving Examinations), a high stake examination in our country and her birthday also falls in the same month. I have made her these Rainbow cake and rainbow cupcakes to wish her pass her examinations with flying colours.

Secondly, the mid-autumn festival is also celebrated in September and this year I attempted to make the Shanghai Mooncakes and Rainbow Mooncakes and I am glad that it all turned out well for my first attempt.

I was only thinking of baking a simple chocolate cake to celebrate my son's birthday since I was quite stress and tired. However, changed my mind the last minute and decided on a farm truck theme 3D cake to surprise him. I have never make a 3D cake before and don't you think it was really bold of me to try it just the night before his birthday? ;p

I forwent my sleep and work the whole night to churn out this surprise cake for him. This cake is done using the Chocolate Fudge Cake recipe here. I am quite happy with the outcome minus some hiccups along the way. You should have seen his expression when he woke up the next day. He was beaming with joy and gave me a such a huge hug and said, "Thank you Mummy for the nice surprise, I like it very much!" Even though I was very tired, seeing his happy face makes me feel that my efforts are worthwhile!

We celebrated his birthday with our church caregroup. The children were very excited when the cake was brought out. After the birthday song was sang, I told the children that they can remove the decorations before I cut the cake and the nine of them charged towards it, grabbed and ate up all the candies and cookies they can find on it! LOL!!!
